"I've always been a bit uptight as an artist. But, once you let go of control, and you listen to what a thing wants, you help it become. Then other people resonate with it too. The most important part of creating a piece that speaks is to listen."
Shauna Scott is a SLC native who was born an artist and maker. She could draw stick figures before she could speak. An early life of portraits in pencil was followed by a move to illustration in ink during college. Additionally, a BA in Theatre taught Shauna how to build a set, act on it, and strike it afterwards. Faux finishing, and building flats are still part of her skill set.
World travel as an Emmy Award© winning television documentarian inspired her to paint. Her first show in 2010 was a study in portraiture titled "Faces".
“Downpour” saw Shauna move into the abstract and surreal in 2019. Pour painting backdrops and finding the hidden images was a joy of discovery. Brushwork on top of the pours defined the subject. This was the first time she was forced to let go of control of the art and allow it to happen.
A visit to the great trees of the California coast and the Pacific North West inspired a move to the region. Now based in Bremerton, WA and surrounded by green spaces and magnificent trees, Shauna has found new inspiration from the backyard Cherry Tree to mammoth sequoias and redwoods.
